Mark Campanale

Mark is the founder of the Carbon Tracker Initiative, a non-profit think tank with offices in the US and UK whose research is focused on the clean energy transition. It is best known for its work on ‘stranded assets’ and the ‘carbon bubble’. These concepts are also used by asset owners to engage with the world’s largest emitting companies through Climate Action 100+; by investors & regulators looking to set decarbonisation pathways for the fossil fuel sector; and by investors interested in the speed of the clean energy transition; and civil society groups working with the fossil fuel divestment movement.

Prior to forming Carbon Tracker in 2011, Mark spent twenty years sustainable financial markets as a co-founder of some of the first responsible investment funds firstly at Jupiter Asset Management in 1989 with the Ecology funds, then NPI, AMP Capital, and Henderson Global Investors.

Mark serves on the Advisory Board of GFANZ (the Glasgow Finance Alliance for Net Zero) and a member of the advisory council of the Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation’s Conservation & Markets Initiative.

He is a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Cambridge’s sustainable finance programme; and in 2021 and winner of the CEREs/Trillum Capital Lifetime Achievement Award on Sustainable Finance. Mark was made an Ashoka Fellow in 2020 and a Sorenson Impact Fellow in 2021.

Mark has a BA in Politics & Economic History and an M.Sc in Agricultural Economics.
